Alexandria Ayala has been sworn in to the Palm Beach County School Board. Ayala will represent District 2 for a four-year term. District 1 member Barbara McQuinn and District 5 member Frank Barbieri were sworn in to serve new four-year terms after winning their respective re-election campaigns.

As part of the meeting, the Board selected Barbieri to continue to serve as the Board Chair, and District 3 member Karen Brill to serve as the Vice-Chair. Board members were also selected to serve on community and educational committees.

Ayala’s election makes her the first Hispanic woman to serve on the Palm Beach County School Board. She is a Palm Beach County School District alum having attended Palm Springs Elementary, Palm Springs Middle, and graduating from John I. Leonard High School. Each of the schools are located in the District she now serves as a board member.

Ayala has a decade of experience in community advocacy, government, and legislative affairs. She has served as a Legislative Aide on the Palm Beach County Commission and in Tallahassee.

On the School Board, Ayala says she will focus on ensuring every child has an opportunity to succeed, that policies work to close the student achievement gap, and that decisions are made transparently ensuring parents, teachers, and the community a voice in the decision-making process.

Ayala is committed to ensuring a safe, inclusive school environment, proper fiscal management of the budget, and protecting the arts, choice, and career academy programs that are critical to student education and success.

“I’m here to learn, listen and work diligently to make a difference,” Ayala said after the ceremony. “Together, I know we can continue to build on the tremendous success that is the Palm Beach County School District.”
